My Son Devin Shane Whittington

by Brandi Dickhaus

Date: Fri, 11 Feb 2005

Devin was born on Dec 19th 1995 and changed so many people in so many ways, he was only with us for a very short six weeks, he passed on Feb 4th 1996. It has now been eight years and still hurts like it was yesterday. There is nothing you can do to stop the pain, you just learn to live with it and convert it into the love you have for yourself and other children. When this happened to me, my grandmother said to me," what doesn't take your live, only makes you stronger in the end". I believe that more today then I did at that time, but at that time, nothing anyone said made sense, see I was only 19 years old myself and never had to deal with the pain of losing anyone. So when I woke that morning and found Devin, my new baby gone, I didn't know how to feel, act or even speak. I was in shock. For two and a half years I never let myself face it. I pushed it in the back of my mind and that is where it stayed. Two years later my grandmother passed, that is when I realized that I had to face this head on and get through it. not over it, through it. Because no matter how strong you are you never get over it, now that doesn't make you weak, that just means you care.
No one knows why our babies are taken from us so quickly, and no one can explain, but my aunt Sarah found a poem that we put on his remembrance cards and I think it says it better then anything I can write.
When God calls little children
To dwell with Him above,
We mortals often question
                           The wisdome of his love.
For no heartache compares with
The death of one small child
Who does so much to make this world
                           Seem wonderful and mild.
Perhaps God tires of calling
                           The aged to his fold
And so He picks a rosebud
Before it can grow old.
God knows how much we need them
And so He takes but few
To make the land of Heaven
More beautiful to view.
Believing this is difficult,
But somehow we must try.
The saddest word that mankind knows
Will always be "goodbye,"
And so when little ones depart
We who are left behind
Must realize how much God loves
Little children,
FOR ANGELS ARE HARD TO FIND.

This helped me a little, so I pass it on to you, so maybe it will help someone else. Thank you very much.
