A Poem for Tyler
by his Mommy, Monique McCormack
I longed to hold you in my arms,
I longed to kiss your little fingers and toes,
One at a time;
I dreamed of hearing your first laugh,
Your first word,
Of seeing you take your first step.
I pictured you on your first day of school,
In a new outfit, proud and sure of yourself;
Your graduation day, with your head held high,
And your diploma in your hand;
And then your wedding day,
Your blushing bride by your side.
Somehow I knew, almost right from the start,
That my son was growing inside of me.
But I didn't know you would be taken away from me so soon.
I didn't know I would never see you do all of those things.
My darling boy, I love you so much.
I love you for the memories I do have of you.
I'll never forget the day they told me I was expecting you.
I'll never forget the look on your father's face when I told him.
I will always remember the sound of your heartbeat,
And your little hand waving at us on the ultrasound screen.
These things I will treasure forever in my heart.
